The Story Behind Unlocking the Bible Across America Millions of people in our country have a vague belief in God but have never grasped hold of the Christian faith. They don’t know what’s in the Bible, but they’re open to finding out. Especially if the information can be presented in a relational context. In the same way, millions of Christians know a host of Bible stories and passages, but still don’t have a good feel for the Bible’s big picture and main themes. In January of 2004, WMBI radio, Total Living Network, and Unlocking the Bible piloted a unique outreach effort to address these precise issues. It was called Chicago’s Largest Bible Study. The goal was to encourage churches and individuals to use the 10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible video curriculum to reach out to seekers. More than 70 churches were involved with hundreds of groups being formed. A number of people came to Christ. Many of the groups are still continuing on. One of the most exciting results was the way Chicago’s Largest Bible Study motivated and empowered ordinary Christians to reach out to the lost. A number of leaders shared that they had felt inadequate sharing their faith. But they knew they could show a video in their home and facilitate a discussion. They were amazed to see how God used them when they stepped out in faith. With the success in Chicago, organizers began prayerfully considering a larger outreach. This birthed the Unlocking the Bible Across America (UTBAA) movement. UTBAA builds on the unique partnership between churches and media that was established in Chicago. Christian Television and Radio stations throughout the country will help create awareness of the Unlocking the Bible Across America initiative. They will encourage churches and individuals throughout their broadcasting area to join forces in reaching out with the 10 Keys for Unlocking the Bible study. Churches will also play a vital role. They will either host groups in the church or challenge and train their people to host studies in their homes. You can also play a central role. As you pray for seekers around you and step out in faith, God can use you to make a difference in the lives of others. |
